Come to the Philippines and Learn English Well E & G International Language Center was founded on June 26, 2006. Its humble beginnings were braved by six teachers and five students. Since then, that number had grown sporadically. E & G is basically an ESL (English as a Secondary Language) school in Davao City. Its students originate mainly from South Korea and Japan. The students are taught the basics and dynamics of the English language. The school provides air-conditioned dormitory rooms, a dining hall which serves three square meals a day, numerous cubicles for both single and group classes, laundry services, room cleaning services, round-the-clock wifi service, competent office staff, a 24-hour CCTV system and security guard service. Despite the proliferation of various language centers around the country, E & G is an excellent choice by many prospective students. They are especially delighted about the breath-taking location of the school besides the sea fronting infamous Samal Island. The school is comfortably located nearby several huge malls and entertainment centers that provides relaxation for the students whenever they want to unwind. The locality is sprinkled with fast food and take-out counters as well as convenient outlets for immediate needs. The future goal of the school is to be able to bring in more students from South Korea and Japan and provide them with updated English teaching programs and bring it to a level of world-class compatibility. Hello, can you help me how to join these two negatives and create question? I am bit confused.

I didn’t take your phone and I didn’t remove the contacts. – how to shorten it? –> my guess–> I didn’t take your phone or/and remove the contacts? ///another guess –> I didn’t take your phone and not remove contacts.

+ How to create negative question? –> Did you not take your phone and not remove the contacts? or just Didn’t you take your phone and remove the contacts?

1, I think,”Neither I took the phone nor removed the contacts” would be nice.

2. Did you not take (or Didn’t you take) the phone and remove the contacts?
The word not is applicable to both verbs “take” and “remove”.

I didn’t take your phone or remove the contacts = I neither took your phone nor removed the contacts.
I didn’t take your phone and remove the contacts = I might have taken your phone, but I did not remove your contacts.

“There are no rules in English, only guidance. Some guidance looks like a rule; it probably isn’t.”

1, I think,”Neither I took the phone nor removed the contacts” would be nice.2. Did you not take (or Didn’t you take) the phone and remove the contacts?
The word not is applicable to both verbs “take” and “remove”.

How can I know if word not is applicable to only one verb or to the whole sentence???e.g. A.

I didn’t take your phone and remove the contacts – I didn’t take your phone and remove the contacts. – OK. B. but I took your phone and I didn’t remove the contacts -> I took your phone and didnt remove the contacs. Now the verb NOT is not applicable to this sentence.

How can I know it?? e.g. Did you take your phone and not remove the contacts? – is fine, I think. but why in the B. it works differently? Did you not take your phone and (not) remove the conacts? – I think I need to use both NOTs or?

Because It can mean eg. I didn’t take your phone and removed the contacs –> I didn’t take your phone & I remove the contacts.

see?

Is there a vebsite where I can read about this? Thanks

In this situation, the use is ambiguous – that is, it is unclear whether or not the negative applies to both verbs. Sometimes language is like that.

Reply With QuoteIt is the main verb of the second clause that will tell you:

I didn’t take your phone and remove the contacts. You will note that “didn’t take” is the past perfect made from to do and the bare infinitive “take“. However, the verb “remove” is also the bare infinitive. Therefore the “didn’t” refers to both – both are in the present perfect.

However, in I didn’t
take your phone and removed the contacts You will note that “didn’t take” is the past perfect (made from to do and the bare infinitive “take“.) However, the verb “removed” is the simple past. Therefore the “didn’t” does not refer to removed.

You have to write it in this way to make the meaning clearer.B. I took your phone and, but I didn’t remove the contacts -> I took your phone and, but didn’t remove the contacts.

I didn’t take your phone and, but removed the contacts –> I didn’t take your phone &, but I removed the contacts.

I think that two NOTs in this context don’t give a good sense. You can ask,
Didn’t you either take my phone or remove the contacts?

If you know that he took your phone and don’t know whether he removed the contacts or not, you can ask,
Having taken my phone, didn’t you remove the contacts?
or
Didn’t you remove the contacts, having taken my phone?

The answer can be,
I neither took your phone nor removed the contacts.
or
I didn’t either take your phone or remove the contacts.

Grammar. Just say the word and shivers of aversion travel down the spines of all within hearing distance. Nouns and verbs? Adjectives and adverbs? Is it really necessary to be aware of all these things in order to write a paragraph? Will the reader not be able to work around the tiniest little typo? No. Or, rather, they shouldn’t have to. The reader’s job is to absorb the information: it’s the writer’s job to do the rest of the work.

Why do we bother with grammar? Why not just communicate with words? Because you can’t have one without the other. Letters are put together to make words, words are put together to make sentences, and grammar is the glue that holds it all together. If you don’t use the glue properly – or if you use the wrong glue – all it’ll falls well then a parts. Obviously, grammar is entirely necessary, or else you’d be able to understand the last part of that sentence. While most writers are not likely to write anything as catastrophic as that, it’s clear that attention to grammar isimportant. (It’s okay, though: you don’t have to like the grammar.)

Double Negatives

Double negatives occur when two forms of negation are present in the same clause. They are acceptable in many standard and non-standard dialects and foreign languages. When this occurs, the second negation intensifies the negativity of the sentence as a whole. In Standard English, however, double negatives in a single clause cancel each other out and transform the meaning into a positive.

Consider the following example,

Double Negative: I don’t want nothing.

Translation: I want something.

The best way to correct a double negative is to replace the second form of negation with the word any. Consider the following:

Double Negative: I can’t get no satisfaction.

Correction: I can’t get any satisfaction.

The best way to avoid the usage of double negatives is to consider the message of the reader is to absorb from the clause.

Come to the Philippines and Learn English Well

E & G International Language Center was founded on June 26, 2006.

Things You Will Learn From E & G International Language Center

TOIC TIPS TO HELP YOU PASS

Part 1 Picture Identification

You should always look closely at each photo and ask yourself:

Who is in the photo?
What objects are visible?
Where was the photo taken?
What are the professions of the people?
What actions are being performed?
What are the positions of the people and the objects?
Part 2 Question/Response

You will hear different types of questions. Determine what type of question is being asked and what the purpose of the question is. Some questions ask for information but others may be invitations, suggestions or comments.

Listen carefully to the beginning of the question, especially for question words such as who, what, where, when, how, how much, how many, etc.

Do not expect the answer to a question to contain the same verb and tense as the question.
Part 3 Reading Comprehension

Be familiar with the layout of common types of texts such as emails, memos or formal letters in order to facilitate your reading.

Read the title and the first line of the text to determine what kind of text it is and identify the main idea.

Remember that an answer may require that you understand information in different parts of the text.

Read both documents in order to understand the relationship between the two for the sections that feature double passages.

Remember that some questions will require you to cross-check information between the two documents. You should therefore allow more time for double passages.

A world of lonely singles finding comfort in the arms of a robot lover may be closer than expected in human hearts and minds. Only a few people have vowed romantic love for a life-size “RealDollsex doll or the virtual schoolgirls of the Japanese dating simulation gameLove Plus,” but scientists say that even the simplest toy robots or video games have shown how machines can manipulate human emotions.

Tomorrow’s sex robots or virtual companions still won’t inspire most people to abandon their boyfriends and girlfriends — at least not until such artificial beings can look and behave human without creeping anyone out. Instead, many more people may find themselves forming platonic bonds with the next generation of smarter robot toys or virtual assistants in their cars and smartphones.

“We’re not going to wake up someday and say ‘It’s OK to have a relationship with a robot,'” said Thalia Wheatley, a psychologist at Dartmouth College. “But it’s going to organically happen that we grow to depend on these things.”

Relationships short of romance have already blossomed more openly. Schoolkids and nursing home residents willingly hug, pet and kiss electronic toys such as the owl-like “Furby” and cuddly “Paro” seal without shame, and treat the simple robots like their own children. Battle-hardened U.S. soldiers have shed tears over wrecked robots and risked their lives to rescue malfunctioning machine companions.

Teaching English as aSecond Language   Leave a comment

Come to the Philippines and Learn English Well

E & G International Language Center was founded on June 26, 2006.
Things You Will Learn From E & G International Language Center

Why to like a  FILIPINA woman……..

1. Filipina women are famous for their magnetic beauty

Filipinas are well known for their feminine disposition, and magical charm among other Asian women.

2. Filipina women are clam, understanding and patient

Most Filipinas would never involve in a loud argument or fight just because of the way they are brought up as a true Filipina Lady, who speaks politely. This quiet, soft spoken, and caring nature of the Filipino women separates them from the western women.

3. Filipina girls are well educated

The Philippines gives great importance to higher education. Unlike other Asian countries where women tend to be in more subservient positions, the Philippines give more importance to girl’s education. This affects their social behavior too.

4. Filipina women are good home keepers

Filipina women understand their domestic responsibility. For them, their home is the source of their pride. They always try to maintain a loving and warm surroundings  for their family members. For a Filipina, yelling at home is shameful act, as it would mean they cause disgrace to their home. Thus, you will never see a Filipina screaming, throwing dishes or fighting at top of her voice.

5. Filipinas are kindhearted, supportive, and caring

The loving, caring nature of Filipina woman is noticeable.  You will never see any successful businesses for orphanages or retirement homes in the Philippines.  Filipinas will never desert a child or a family member who is in need.

6. Filipina girls believe in life long relationship

Filipina girls are brought up in a high respect for the sacredness of relation and view it as a life-long commitment with their partner. Many people, who have a relation with Filipina girls, swear that they are among the best woman –faithful, loving and loyal.

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A woman reportedly suffering from postpartum depression cut off her husband’s penis after stabbing him and one of their twin sons dead in Barangay Bacuyangan, Hinobaan, Negros Occidental over the weekend.

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Since no criminal charges were filed against her within the 36-hour reglamentary period of detention, a 33-year-old woman who killed her husband and one-year-old child in Hinobaan, Negros Occidental last Saturday, was released from jail on Monday, police said.

MANILA, Philippines – A woman died Friday night after she accidentally shot herself with an improvised shotgun she was carrying in her neighborhood in Barangay Greater Lagro, Quezon City.

A British Baptist minister who married a Filipino woman 39 years his junior has allegedly been murdered by hitmen hired by the bride, it has emerged.

Pastor David Brash, 62, was apparently battered to death and his body dumped in a swamp in the Philippines only 21 days after he left the UK for a new life with his young wife.

Jul 4, 2013 – Philippine Department of State on the 3rd announced that China has executed the same day of a Filipino woman smuggling heroin traffickers.

Thursday, May 30, 2013 The melee began at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, when store employees noticed 38-year-old Mhai Scott acting oddly while handing out pizza samples, said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman.

Scott’s mother and sister told Philippine television station ABS-CBN News she was the mother of two girls, aged 8 and 12. In the Filipino TV story, Scott’s sister says she had an ongoing dispute with her ex-husband over the custody of their two girls.

Scott reportedly became upset when she ran out of pizza, reported Northern Virginia Bureau Chief Julie Carey. Witnesses said she was waving a knife and scissors, threatening employees.

Deputies were called to the store to handle the disturbance. After they arrived, Scott — who worked for a company that handles sampling at Costco stores — approached the officers with the sharp items, authorities said.

One deputy tried to use a stun gun on Scott, but Chapman said the stun gun “did not work,” and another deputy fatally shot her.

Fritz Springmeier Burned by Filipina Bride Scam

April 14, 2012
(Fritz, left, looks much younger than his 57 years)

After being released from jail, Fritz Springmeier made finding a mate his first priority, with disastrous consequences.

by Fritz Springmeier
(henrymakow.com)

Being scammed by Filipino ladies is easy. I write from experience. Cupid hit Stupid.

Oh, the adventure begins innocently by some lovely Filipina being used as bait to initiate a well-crafted age-old stratagem complete with highly skilled subterfuge and acting that rivals Hollywood.

An American with four Catholic Filipino wives (yes, polygamy) who befriended me said that the situation in the Philippines is so desperate that I could get whatever I wanted in a wife…just make out a list of qualities I wanted, and he’d tell his people, and she would be found. I supplied the list, but only got excuses. Undaunted, I struck out on my own!

During the first match, I detected a scam when the handwriting changed on the letters I received. Being a certified handwriting expert came in handy.

Next match was by Internet, which significantly speeds up the dating (um, scamming) process. As they say, “speed kills”. With Skype and Yahoo Messenger! and a web cam one can talk face to face with your lady for free for hours.

And Western Union, Xoom, and Moneygram will take your money to her almost instantly. (As an aside, the Philippine government is constantly trying to stop the rampant use of the Internet by Filipino ladies who make money by exposing their bodies.)

Using a dating site, I rapidly sifted through hundreds of female profiles to find that special lady. Once discovered, she amazingly said all the right things, including how she feared and loved God and would only do me right. She quoted Scripture. She was only a “simple” country girl.

Later I learned that “simple” is used as a ploy to get your guard down. Who would ever suspect a simple sweet lady of being able to script a complex cold-blooded scam? It’s not within our normal experience.

One Filipina said 85% of the Filipinas on the Internet are running scams on foreign men. Another experienced one simply said if you find one on the Internet, it is a scam. She should know; she was doing it.

I had to learn the hard way, and learn I did, ouch! I thought my girl was different;  no one knew her. My fiancee repeatedly claimed she’d show them wrong and make me a happy man.

Once in love and committed to the relationship, I was warned that it would have to cease because my darling could not afford to continue her Internet. This is where the scammers decided I would be a sucker.

Naturally concerned that everything relationally would go down the drain, I reluctantly coughed up $756. Fortunately for the scammers, a typhoon hit and I didn’t get anything for my $756.

She began using Internet cafes, inflating their costs. That is typical. Foreigners traveling in the Philippines will be charged inflated prices even by airline and government officials.  Foreigners seem to wear an invisible target proclaiming us to be rich suckers, which is usually the case.

After the typhoon, she ‘hesitated” to let me see her on the web cam because she didn’t want me to worry about the wounds all over her body including her face/head.  I insisted and asked her if she was doing anything for it. She said washing it with water. I asked if she had clean water after the typhoon, and she said, no it was dirty, but better than nothing. On my own initiative Sir Galahad sent her $40 for hydrogen peroxide.

Upon reflection overnight, I realized her head wound could get infected and cause quick death. The seriousness of her wounds required serious hospital treatment. She began to die, her sister came from another province to help, she lost consciousness, and now I was chatting with family members rather than my beloved. Could I allow someone I loved to die? Here was a crisis of conscience, and the answer was, No I could not allow her to die. So I sent another $2,500 for her to be hospitalized.

Mother Nature was kind to the Filipino scammers; she kept sending more typhoons to provide more certifiable disasters.  I was worn out paying for her to survive one disaster after another. It would be cheaper to bring her here where we don’t have a headline making disaster or emergency striking every week. Bear in mind, I had helped her through these once-a-week emergencies for 7 months now, being shredded each time with sadness over her suffering and pain. But I was determined she was not going to die on my watch.

To make her acceptable to receive a tourist visa because no countries trust Filipinos to leave once they enter a country, I proceeded to make her look good for her visa interview. Starting with a passport, I got her land with a house, a term of college for fall 2012, and temporarily placed my own money for bills (like taxes, bills and rent) to the tune of $9,000 in her bank account. She repeatedly assured me she would send my money back after her visa interview so I could survive my mounting bills. She would prove to the world how she loved me and was not a scam.

( Devastation caused by Typhoon)

Now the final act in this crazy drama got played out. Rather than come to America and have a future, she ripped me off; and the evidence accumulated that this had been a scam all along. Who would have thought a sweet fun-loving Christian lady would rather scam my very last dime and repay unconditional love with destruction, rather than have a future life in America? – See more at: http://henrymakow.com/frtiz_springmeier_victim_of_fi.html#sthash.2DQT81iP.dpuf

BOOKS: GRAMMAR, VOCABULARY, READING, WRITING, SLE,   TIME FRAME: ONE MONTH

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Grammar is important because it is the language that makes it possible for us to talk about language. Grammar names the types of words and word groups that make up sentences not only in English but in any language. As human beings, we can put sentences together even as children–we can all do grammar. But to be able to talk about how sentences are built, about the types of words and word groups that make up sentences–that is knowing about grammar. And knowing about grammar offers a window into the human mind and into our amazingly complex mental capacity. People associate grammar with errors and correctness. But knowing about grammar also helps us understand what makes sentences and paragraphs clear and interesting and precise. Grammar can be part of literature discussions, when we and our students closely read the sentences in poetry and stories. And knowing about grammar means finding out that all languages and all dialects follow grammatical patterns.

GRAMMAR: To Learn English Grammar and how the differences are between learning English in it true form.  The English Language has many different parts of Grammar and to understand each part it must be done one step at a time.

It aims to improve learners’ communicative competence through an emphasis on interaction. It enables learners to acquire and practice using important functions and expressions in natural contexts while, at the same time, stimulating conversation related to various topics and real-life situations. It utilizes a number of communicative approaches to language learning in order to facilitate the learners’ timely and effective acquisition of English. The aim of the program is to improve learners’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills as well as their vocabulary and grammar skills. The SLE series provides learners with the tools they need to use their newly acquired language skills in the real world. It aims to help build learners’ confidence in using English outside the classroom by increasing their understanding of and involvement in the learning process. Most importantly, the SLE series will challenge learners and help them believe in themselves.

English is a West Germanic language that was first spoken in early medieval England and is now the most widely used language in the world.[4] It is spoken as a first language by the majority populations of several sovereign states, including the United Kingdom, the United StatesCanadaAustraliaIreland,New Zealand and a number of Caribbean nations. It is the third-most-common native language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.[5] It is widely learned as a second language and is an official language of the European Union, many Commonwealth countries and the United Nations, as well as in many world organisations.

English arose in the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England and what is now southeast Scotland. Following the extensive influence of Great Britain and the United Kingdom from the 17th century to the mid-20th century, through theBritish Empire, and also of the United States since the mid-20th century,[6][7][8][9] it has been widely propagated around the world, becoming theleading language of international discourse and the lingua franca in many regions.[10][11]

Historically, English originated from the fusion of closely related dialects, now collectively termed Old English, which were brought to the eastern coast of Great Britain by Germanic settlers (Anglo-Saxons) by the 5th century – with the word English being derived from the name of the Angles,[12] and ultimately from their ancestral region of Angeln (in what is now Schleswig-Holstein). A significant number of English words are constructed on the basis of roots fromLatin, because Latin in some form was the lingua franca of the Christian Church and of European intellectual life.[13] The language was further influenced by the Old Norse language because of Viking invasions in the 9th and 10th centuries.

The Norman conquest of England in the 11th century gave rise to heavy borrowings from Norman French, and vocabulary and spelling conventions began to give the appearance of a close relationship with Romance languages[14][15] to what had then become Middle English. The Great Vowel Shift that began in the south of England in the 15th century is one of the historical events that mark the emergence of Modern English from Middle English.

Owing to the assimilation of words from many other languages throughout history, modern English contains a very large vocabulary, with complex and irregular spelling, particularly of vowels. Modern English has not only assimilated words from other European languages, but from all over the world. The Oxford English Dictionary lists over 250,000 distinct words, not including many technical, scientific, and slang terms.[16][17]

This is an introduction for you to understand E&G International Language Center.  We are an English Second Language School here in Davao, we have students that come from Korea and Japan.  We teach them all the basic’s of the English language, to make their experiences better.  We are asking for your kind help in finding Teachers for our great school.  We are in the need of good teachers with an overall desire, and aptitude to teach other  foreign students, this will be a great challenge but the teachers will have the chance to work and learn, teaching students from other country’s.  We have a great establishment for the teachers and the students.

When a teacher comes to our school they will be required to take a written test and to do a demo and show there ability to teach students, they will be observed by the head teachers and the manager of the school, if they can show that they have the excitement, the ability to help students grow in the English, we would love to talk and hire them.

We would ask that you post our advertisement so that we can find good teacher for our great school; if they want an exciting and rewarding and challenging but fun job then we need them as much as they need us.

Thank you

Sincerely:  E&G International Language Center

Manager:  Ashley
